Pug Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Meet Petra! Petra is a puggle and estimated to be around 8 years old. We were contacted by our vet after Petra's previous owner dropped her off stating she had cancer and wanted her euthanized. Our vet checked her out and found a fatty tumor but no other health concerns. They gave us a call and we of course said we would take her on. It seemed Petra did not have much socialization prior to joining us. Since arriving she has learned to play and interact with other dogs. She is dog and cat friendly, but she does not like dogs with hyper, puppy energy. She will coexist with them but prefers calmer, mature dogs. She is not a morning dog and ... (Read More)loves to sleep, yet she is still very active when she is awake. She loves to run and play around. Petra loves to snuggle and she would do fine around children that know how to act around and respect dogs. Petra is spayed and up to date on vaccines. She is house and crate trained. She is dog and cat friendly. Good with kids that know how to act around and respect dogs. Interested in this dog/cat? Rescue Me ID: 18-04-23-00045Doc McMurphy (male)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Low Energy
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Blind, Heartworm Positive

Meet Doc McMurphy (or Murphy for short). Murphy came to us from a rural shelter system. Murphy is around 5 to 7 years old and a pittie mix. He is blind and heartworm positive. A passionate volunteer/foster saw Murphy and just couldn't ignore him. She contacted us and we of course said we would help him. Murphy is currently undergoing heartworm treatment. He is available for a foster to adopt. Adoption would not be final until he has completed treatment and cleared by our vet. Here's what we know about Murphy. Being blind does not slow him down. He is truly a sweetheart who loves to snuggle or just hang out near you. He is very smart. He ... (Read More)is dependent on his people to help guide him. Because he is blind he would do best in a home that keeps furniture where it is. Changes could cause him to bump into things. He is very quick to learn his surroundings. He has such a happy go lucky personality and everyone who meets him falls in love with his patient and loving demeanor. Murphy loves to just hang out and chill. He is in a foster home where he is left alone in the house for an 8 hour work day and he does well. Anything longer than that and he might have an accident. He does great in his crate. He has done well with all dogs and cats he has met. He would do best with calm kids that know how to respect dogs and won't rush up to him. He absolutely loves squeaky toys. If he hears one and doesn't have it he will whine until it is given to him :) Murphy really is a sweet boy who just needs a loving, forever home. You won't be disappointed when you meet this handsome fella. Murphy is undergoing heartworm treatment and can be officially adopted when that is completed and he is in the clear. After being cleared of heartworm, Murphy will be neutered. He is current on all vaccines. Adoption fee: $100 Last updated 4/22/18 Interested in this dog/cat? Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Meet Maddie. Maddie came to us after we lost a close friend and ally of the rescue world, Curtis Scott. Maddie was one of a handful of dogs whose worlds were turned upside down with the sudden loss of Curtis. Maddie is estimated to be a 5 to 7 years old terrier mix at 35 pounds. Maddie had a very rough life before she made her way to her previous owner. Maddie was part of a cruelty case in the Chicago area where she and four other dogs came from a horrendous situation. The dogs were found huddled together in the dark, dirty, stench-filled room. There was dog fighting paraphernalia found on the premises and it was clear none of the dogs had ... A volunteer with CACC refused to give up on Maddie and worked hard to find her a rescue and the chance we all knew she deserved. That's where Curtis steps in. This volunteer reached out to Curtis and he stepped up to give Maddie the chance she needed. After Curtis passed our Director, Cindy, stepped up to take in Maddie. After settling in with AHS for a few months and Cindy working one on one with her, she is ready for her forever home. Maddie does have PTSD from her past experiences. She can do well with other dogs but would honestly do best in a home where she is the only pet in the home. Maddie is house and crate trained. Pit Bull Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Most Cats
Personality: Low Energy
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Meet sweet boy Ralph! Ralph is a 2 year old pitt mix and weighs around 55 pounds. We pulled Ralph from the Wabash Animal Shelter where he had been adopted out but then kept on the end of a chain outside in his new 'home'. The owners called the police stating their dog was being aggressive, however, he never showed any aggression to anyone that helped rescue him. Wabash reached out for help from a Rescue Group and we said we would take him on. Cindy assessed and he has never shown any aggression whatsoever. Ralph has done so well since arriving with AHS and is learning new things every day. He has learned not to jump and comes when called. ... (Read More)He does well with dogs and doesn't mind cats. Ralph still hasn't learned how to play with other dogs. Ralph LOVES to play with toys and typically avoids other dogs. He is pretty calm and pretty much stays to himself. Ralph would do perfectly as an only pet because his true love are his humans. He loves human affection! He has such a sweet disposition. He is very muscular and strong, but really is easy to handle and very calm. He would make a good running or cycling buddy, but is also up to just chilling on the couch. Ralph has a lot to catch up on. What we mean by that is that he needs to learn how to enjoy life as a pet. He previously was kept on the end of a chain with little attention/interaction. He is still learning what it means to be a dog that can play and get belly rubs. He is afraid of car rides and will need continued training. Ralph is house and crate trained. He would do best in a home without children (he can scare easy). Ralph needs a fenced in yard and cannot be on a tie out (it causes anxiety and we don't blame him based on his history!). He really needs a home with a calm, relaxing environment. Can you give Ralph a REAL forever home that he deserves? Adoption fee: $100 Last updated 5/10/18 Interested in this dog/cat? We agreed to take her on and help her. Since arriving at AHS we have had no nipping situations. Nyah has given warning growls when she feels her space is being invaded and she wasn't a fan of getting her nails trimmed, but no actual nipping. Nyah is an independent dog and has gotten along great with the dogs and cats at the sanctuary as long as they respect her space. She has a few quirks but nothing difficult to live with. The biggest thing with Nyah is respecting her ... (Read More)space. She enjoys short walks when the weather is good but mostly she loves to just relax. Whoever adopts Nyah needs to be able to offer a calm, relaxed environment. Oh, her owners also need to be an expert at doing nothing and enjoying tons of downtime. Nyah is housebroken and loves her crate (it is her own little sanctuary). Nyah needs a 1 or 2 person home. She is not demanding or bossy, she just wants her space respected (who doesn't?). If we want to hold her we ask her, we do not just scoop her up. Simple things like that give her comfort. No kids for this girl. We know Nyah isn't perfect (but who is?) but we know there is a great home out there for her! Could you give Nyah the home she deserves?     Meet Olaf! Olaf is believed to be a white German Shepherd and is 2 years old. Olaf was adopted out when he was about 6 months old and returned to AHS in October 2017 at no fault of his own. His family just couldn't commit to the time and energy Olaf needed and felt it best for him to find a new home. Olaf is a very active boy with a lot of energy. He needs a home with at least one other active dog (or more). Olaf likes to play with toys, but prefers to play with other dogs. He loves to run and swim, an active owner or family is a must! He is great with children of all ages, but due to his size would do best with older children. Olaf needs to have a 6ft fence that is very secure. Rescue Me ID: 17-08-17-00176Lady (female)

Boston Terrier Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Low Energy
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Meet Miss Lady Bug! Lady is Boston Terrier/Boxer mix and roughly 7 years old. Lady was pulled from Indianapolis Animal Care Services. Lady was a rescue only due to her age and the condition of her left eye and she was shutting down in the shelter environment. Lady was estimated by IACS to be 9 years old, but our vet believes she is more around 7 years. It is very clear that Lady was used as a breeding machine most of her life. And although she was an owner surrender due to a move, we feel it was because they had no more use for her. Lady's teeth were in horrible condition, our vet called it 'cage biting' from either chewing on a crate or ... (Read More)metal fence. She has signs of being chained up and was either kept outdoors in the elements or in a damp basement. Her left eye has a scarred cornea from an old injury and will likely go blind in that eye at some point. She does need eye drops and ointment daily for her eye, but she does well with getting it each day. Due to her over breeding Lady also has some leakage issues and has to be on a supplement to help prevent this. Neither the eye drops or supplement are costly and we hope this does not deter anyone from this sweet girl. Lady had some noncancerous mammary tumors removed and was spayed after arriving to AHS. Despite all she has been through, Lady is seriously a sweetheart and has so much love to give. She can be unsure of new people, but is quickly won over with a treat. Lady loves to run in the yard and strategize how she will catch a squirrel. She loves to sunbathe and LOVES playing with her Kong Wubba. She has the cutest little ears that flop while she runs through the yard. All Lady wants is a soft bed to lay on and be with you. She on occasion likes her space and does find her crate as a safe zone when she needs alone time or time to decompress. Lady would make a wonderful pet to first time dog owners. Lady is house and crate trained. Lady does well with children and spent some time in a foster home with a rambunctious 2 year old and did awesome. She would do okay with another dog (she likes to be boss), but she is A Okay being the only pet. Sadly she never really learned to be a dog so she is unsure on how to play with others She did well with the cats while at the sanctuary, but was pretty interested in the cats at her foster home. If you have a scaredy cat, she may chase it. If you have cat that will stand up for itself, then you should be fine. Lady does well on a leash and loves to go for walks. Lady has a beautiful personality and deserves a forever home where she knows she is loved and safe. Can you give this to her? Adoption fee: $150 Last updated 11/15/17 Interested in this dog/cat?     Nugget is a 2 year old lab/mastiff mix and is a BIG boy weighing in at 75 pounds. Nugget came to us when he was 5 months old. His previous 'family' had left him behind when they moved out of their apartment. It was over a week before Nugget was discovered in a crate in the abandoned apartment. He was pretty malnourished too. Another tenant took him in but he quickly outgrew the 25 pound weight limit and that is when we took him in. Nugget is an absolute goof who is completely unaware of his size. He is constantly tripping over his feet and you can't help but laugh at his silly demeanor. Nugget's two favorite past times are playing and ... (Read More)eating. He is definitely a follower. He is a super smart boy and picks things up quickly, it is cute when you can see the wheels turning. :) After Nugget has had his daily play/exercise he calms down fairly easy. Nugget needs to have an active home with at least one other dog (the more the merrier). He needs a fenced in yard that is at least 6 ft high, he can jump really high. No kitties for this guy. He would be best in a home with no children or older children as he is very clumsy and can easily knock a small child down unintentionally.     Hi Everyone, Jasmine here! I have been waiting a long time for my perfect family, 2 years now! That is 730 days! I had been adopted before but it simply didn't work out, the other dog in the home didn't really like me. I also had some 'close adoptions' but then it was decided I wouldn't be a good fit, simply because of my breed. That made me really sad because I can't help what breed I am and really I am not scary. I am just a sweet girl who wants a family to call her own and I can be a total cuddle bug! I am really hoping I can find my forever family in time to go on some adventures this Spring and Summer. I really love all seasons and ... (Read More)just being outdoors. I am told I make the perfect hiking, running, walking, swimming buddy. I am always up for an adventure! I am around 2 years old and believed to be a lab/pitbull mix. I do fine with cats as long as I am properly introduced to them. I absolutely love children! I simply adore them and would love to have a home with a kid of my own in it. I can have trust issues with new dogs, simply because I have been attacked a few times. I don't mind being the only dog, but if you have other dogs it would be best if they are non-confrontational and won't challenge me. I may need to take several meet and greets before I am comfortable around them. I am house and crate trained, spayed and up to date on vaccines. I am told I am easy to train and I just love going on adventures. I need an active family for sure! I wind down easy and then love to snuggle with my people. I know my forever family is out there, they just haven't found me yet. But I know they are out there ready to love me for me! Jasmine just needs someone who is willing to give her a chance and the time needed to build trust. Once you have that bond with her you won't be disappointed. Could you be Jasmine's perfect forever?
